In this piece, I'd like to share with you some influential photographers whose distinct works helped to shape how I make stories through the lens.
My first introduction to his works was through "The Monster in the Mountains", a short film published by The New Yorker. He documented some issues such as environment and inequality in American geography. He inspired me to make monochrome photography.
Rayyiu is a popular photographer on Instagram years ago. I just love his candid and unplanned style of photography. His style is unique. I have no words to describe it. And, he produces beautiful landscape images, too. You will love his works in Nepal!
Just like Rayyiu, I knew Hideaki Hamada through Instagram. Many Indonesian follow his works and even try to imitate his style in film photography. If you love Japan, you must love Hamada's works.
Kadir is a documentary photographer who has received numerous prizes and awards in photojournalism. I knew Kadir's works since he published the project ‘Where will we go’, looking at the global consequences of rising sea levels caused by climate change. His photographs and stories are always worth following.
She is a brilliant American street photographer who hid away. A nanny by profession, she did the most intriguing works of street photography during her lifetime. She took more than 150,000 photographs of the people and architecture of Chicago, New York, and LA. But, her works were unknown and unpublished. No one knew Maier until John Maloof, Ron Slattery, and Randy Prow, collectors, found some of Maier's negatives and published them on the internet years after.
